2016 end of the year summary form Tigerkenn Homes

What a year! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the end of another year in the Tigerkenn homes family, and at times like this, we usually sit down and take stock of all our activities from the beginning of the year till the end. This is yet another report of our daily activities for 2016. Enjoy. 2016 started with a lot of uncertainty about the direction of Nigeria’s economy. From the first month, we had already started seeing signs of inflation, but we didn’t know this will slide into full recession. Consequently, most materials used in home building rose in price, due to the scarcity of foreign currencies with which to make imports for these goods and materials. This rise in the cost of materials was a huge turning point in the construction industry as most suppliers, contractors and builders were caught unawares by this sudden rise. Many people made losses in the year. But in this company, we always watch the socio economic indicators and as such we got ready for what we know will be coming, as such we were not so much affected by the economic turmoil ravaging the country’s business sector. This company has been undergoing some subtle changes, we have been shifting our focus from home building to estate management, land acquisitions and large estate construction and maintenance. As such, we made a lot of progress in some of our upcoming estates, we sold out our lands at Ugwuomu Nike, and then we moved to acquire a new land for sale. These lands are still on sale at Akpuoga nike in Enugu state. We also had to withdraw from Okuku, a border town to Owerri due to lack of interest from most buyers. In the home construction segment, we built about 12 houses, we worked in Enugu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Aba, Umuahia, Ebonyi and Nkanu. All the records will be attached under this post. Some of these buildings are still undergoing construction, and my workers are still working there. I use this opportunity to thank all my workers, all those who participated in many of our contracts, the unskilled workers, the semi skilled and even the professionals, we thank all our clients for the trust and confidence they reposed in us, Guys, you are just too much. We will continue to partner with you in the coming year and beyond. We specially thank you all, our readers, you know, you are our special audience, and we owe you that top drawer performance, we will want to remain consistent in the delivery of good quality work. God bless you all.

Can N10 million naira build a 5 bedroom duplex in Nigeria today?

You will go very far with N10m. It will depend on your choices. 1. Local stones vs chippings 2. Personally managed vs contractor managed 3. Parapet type, or no parapet 4. Roofing material (aluminium, stone coated, and types) Each choice has its merits and demerits, and might add or remove some money from the budget.

Tips on how to buy iron rods without being cheated in Nigeria.

1. Make sure you count your rods at the point of loading. If you fail to do so, under loading might occur with fraudulent sellers. 2. Make sure a trusted person accompany them to the site. 3. Allow the seller to bargain for the cost of loading BEFORE paying for rods. As he is keen to make a sale, he will not like the loaders to spoil his sales. Sometimes I allow them haggle for trucks too. But that must be before I pay or allow them to bring the truck. 4. Payment must be the last thing in the transaction. Get loaded first, count your materials and then pay the seller if all else is as agreed.

Use of stainless handrails on balconies and verandas

The question will be, are they strong enough to sustain the weight of people who migh want to lean on them, especially from height........ what about the durability test?, how long do they last before they rust? should "stainless" even rust?

140 bedded hospital ward of UNTH, Enugu.

The block of hospital wards popularly known as the 140 bedded was a dreaded place. This is the place where desperate cases encountered by the hospital management are taken, back in the days. The cases referred here are usually people who are in their terminal stage of their sickness, and some intensive care cases. Today, the whole place is not in use as the hosptial has been relocated to Ituku-Ozalla.

Pictures of the current look of Coal Camp embankment

There it is, apart from the grass growing out of the sides, everything is still as peaceful as always.

People living on the mountains of Enugu, how do they cope?

How do these people get to these hillside houses? Do they own cars? Do they drive the cars home everyday? How planning? are the streets planned and every house can get good access of is this a free style dwelling?

A food made in Enugu, the Dolphin restaurant example

And here I am, eating pounded yam (nri ji) with ofe nsala inside Dolphin restaurant in Enugu. The most interesting thing about this meal is the combination of items on service. Not only did all the ingredients used in cooking this soup come locally, although the soup has an Anambra origin. The points to note is that we are drinking Aqua Raphael s made by Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka at Ninth mile corner, we are also using serviettes made at Ngwo, Nondon paper mills are now making paper products like serviettes and tissue papers right here. Biko, kuoro nu ndi Enugu aka!

Updates from our lintel cast in Enugu

This is an ongoing project. We are casting our columns for this house with the care it deserves. All hands are on deck as we move on. More pictures later tomorrow.

The conversion of a volvo saloon car to a pick up vehicle.

We do this all the time in Owerri, south east Nigeria, local technicians pick up a volvo wagon or saloon car and cut off the top so we can use it to carry more load and earn the transporters an extra fare. Simply innovative.
