Why is it that many people in Owerri love to avoid using the pedestrian bridges in the city? On the face of it, they look big and beautiful, but why are they not being used by the masses.?

Very long fuel line in Enugu today.
The scarcity of petroleum still persists across the nation. See the very long line of motorists in line under the hot afternoon sun just to buy some quantities of fuel at the normal pump price.

Picture of Ogui road Enugu
Check out this beautiful picture of a common dual carriage road in Enugu city. The fast paced development of Enugu is very commendable. We urge the incoming state government administration to keep up the good state of infrastructure in this city.

A comparison between Owerri and Port Harcourt pedestrian bridges
Due to the frequency of motor vehicle accidents involving pedestrians, there is the need for governments across the world to build pedestrian foot bridges at intervals on busy roads, especially in cities. Statistics are not available at this moment but it's estimated that hundreds of people die every year while trying to walk or run across motor roads.
The importance of footbridges cannot be overemphasised, rather we are going to examine the apathy of the population of some cities from using pedestrian bridges even when they have been provided. An example is in Imo state, Nigeria, where people are refusing to climb and walk across the pedestrian bridges provided by the state government. I have observed that very few people use footbridges in Owerri, rather people take unneeded risks running across roads. Maybe it's with the design of the bridges, which looks rather slippery to climb, as they have no steps, people generally avoid the bridges in Owerri.
It's a different story in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, where the footbridges provided are so well built that they have air conditioned tubes. This might be to attract pedestrians to use the bridge. This is commendable for the state government who enjoys a huge budget because of their oil revenue.
Port Harcout and its impassable streets
Many streets and roads in Port Harcourt are very congested with human and vehicular traffic. Tricycles are making the situation worse by their abuse of road regulations. This is Rumunduru road, Rumuodara junction.

Port Harcourt Flyovers
There are so many of them in every part of Port Harcourt Nigeria, I have seen one in Rumola, Mile 3, Eliozu and Mile 1. They are beautiful engineering works made to reduce congestion on the road and make road users happy. Another city with lots of flyovers is Abuja, and Nigeria's financial capital, Lagos.
The horrible condition of Enugu - Onitsha express road
Welcome to the worst federal road in Nigeria, the Enugu - Onitsha express road. Drivers dread this road, broken a lot of vehicle's shock absorbers and suspension system down. The federal government is careless about this road and the senators and house of reps members from this area seems to be sleeping. The poor man suffers for it.
