Nigeria's inflation getting worse
It's no longer news that the common man on the streets of Nigeria is undergoing the most harrowing hardships we can remember in the recent past. Never since the days of the military has things got this bad. Many people are now facing the reality that they cannot afford the pleasures of a few years ago.
Let us take a food staple like rice for example, cost of buying rice has almost tripled in the past two years, with everyone groaning in pain as their pockets can no longer carry the ever increasing price. Rice is now turning to a luxury in Nigeria, as well as many other food and goods.
Of more consequence is the havoc this inflation is wrecking on the building sector. The whole manufacturing sector is witnessing a serious problem. In the face of rising costs, it is becoming difficult to maintain a building quote for more than a couple of months. This strain and inconvenience can only spiral into loss of jobs for many workers in the industry, with reduced profitability which will mean more hardship for the masses.
We urge the Federal government of Nigeria to move fast and arrest this trend before it gets out of control entirely.
