Pictures of demolished shops in Enugu
I was passing along a street at Independence layout in Enugu and met these shops just recently demolished, obviously by the state or local government. I think its right to remove illegal structures from defacing the state capital, but are these guys thinking of the number of people they just rendered jobless? There should be a human face to governance.

I give kudos to the Enugu capital development authority for enforcing the city master-plan. If you allowed some people, they will build illegal structures right in the center of the street to sell whatever they like. It does not matter that their action will deface or create traffic problems. Somepeople paid N50-100 million to buy land at Independence layout just to have a decent neighborhood. They could have bought the land at Asata or coal camp if people will simply not obey the laws.
ReplyDeleteWe all crave to go abroad because the city authorities there rigidly enforce the city master plans. We Nigerians must imbibe the attitude of respecting the law at home just as we do abroad. Including town planning laws.

You are right, I only hope they were warned to remove their illegal properties.
