Bayern Munich slumped to their first ever defeat in Portugal courtesy
of three calamitous defensive lapses, losing 3-1 against FC Porto in an
error-strewn Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash. Bayern,
seeking a fourth successive semifinal spot, failed to recover from a
horror start after Ricardo Quaresma's double-strike in the opening ten
minutes. Thiago reduced the arrears just before the half hour mark,
before Jackson Martinez took advantage of more comedy club defending to
add a third for the home side on 65 minutes.
Thiago's crucial away
goal does give the Bavarians a glimmer of hope and leaves the tie
tantalisingly poised ahead of the second leg in Munich next week.
