Burglary proof built into aluminium window frames
This is a picture of a burglary proof contraption built into an aluminium window frame, this is slightly different from the normal window protector we are used to, the types built to be mounted on the wall of the house.
The only advantage I see with this type of burglary proof is the cheaper cost, as so many of the welded steel which forms the other type are omitted here, making this too simple and cheap.
But most people will argue that this method is risky, since there is only screws attaching the metal to the aluminium frame. This type of burglary proof is not well embedded into the wall to make removing it difficult. .

The aim of burglary proof is to prevent easy access into the house, while it is additional expense in building, I think one should use something formidable. As you rightly pointed out, this design though cheap but can easily be taken out by would be burglars.
ReplyDeleteOn a second thought, why haven't people started using alarm systems and cameras powered by dc batteries (as there is no constant power supply to use ac powered ones) to deter thieves. I think it will be cheaper overall than installing burglary proofs.
ReplyDeleteMy concern with buglary proof is how to escape when there is a house fire.

ReplyDeleteYou are both correct, but with our light problem in Nigeria, electrical alarms is a problem because when the light goes off, the bad guys can walk in.
ReplyDelete@ Jesse, you raised a very valid point about fires but that is one place Nigerians don't think about. They prefer to shut themselves in that think about risks like fire and other hazards that might need a quick escape from the locked house.
There are several alarm systems and CCTV that uses battery. check this one from amazon, there are many depending on your pocket. They are alternative to building burglary proof. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Defender-Keypad-Dual-Function-Alarm/dp/B019CNLT2S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1477975968&sr=8-2&keywords=battery+powered+alarm+system
