Corruption and the poor

Corruption is such a big problem with the Nigerian society that it's almost becoming an acceptable practice.  People are now accepting corruption unconsciously. There is a certain pressure attached with societal expectations of the young and rising that making wealth by all possible means is almost becoming an acceptable thing. Nobody wants to question the sources of wealth which most people display flagrantly,  nobody wants to know if his or her neighbours are thieves or robbers, as long as they are not being robbed directly, but are they still not being robbed nonetheless, even if it's indirectly?

A good example of the societal values changing for the worse is what obtains in many communities,  where elected or appointed officials of the government flaunt so much wealth in the face of the poor that it's almost obscene. But the poor don't seem to care one way or the other, they seem so much interested in praise singing for the wealthy, who may even be cornering all of the communities infrastructural budget and converting same to personal income. The poor have so much been bullied with non provision of needed amenities that they will dance for anybody who can give them crumbs at the end of the day.

Redemption for the poor does not seem to be easy, or possible. This is because they don't even know what to believe as right or wrong, their belief system has been twisted out of proportions because of their unfair situations. Try telling the poor to stand up for their right and you might be making a big mistake, they will not believe there is anything they can do to turn around their situation for the better. The worst thing is that they seem to make it extremely easy for the corrupt few to rule them like cattle, they obey all obnoxious laws and even make more if It will make the rich and corrupt happy.

So what is the solution? I will advocate more education, more introduction of morality based curriculum in the schools, especially pre secondary school ages, when the human mind Is still very impressionable. An education about the rights of citizens is also supposed to be taught across board,  even to the old. It is always the case that most people don't know what their basic rights are. This is why they are always on the receiving end of corrupt practices.
